2010-04-01 April Fool’s Gold

You won’t get any April Fools pranks from this girl. I just don’t have time for that noise. I’d love to be writing about how we saw the cranes yesterday but we didn’t go because life had other plans for us. April Fools Day came a day early for us and if we want to witness the migration it will have to wait for next year.

Instead we had a full afternoon spent visiting with family, which took way too much time in my opinion. First it was a trip to Jim’s parents house, then we went and met his sister and husband at his sisters new office. After that we went out to dinner with my Dad and his wife and my sister and my step sister and nieces. It was my dads birthday and I had forgotten that despite having a conversation with him the day before where he said he was too worried about his brother who is is ill to go out to dinner on his birthday.

When the text invite came in mid-afternoon, I knew it would throw a wrench into our plans. We went anyway. I mean, what are you gonna do? Can’t say no. I mean, I could have said no but that would make me more of a red-headed step child than I already am. 😜

It was ok and of course not without the typical irritations. I get grief from my dad for not buying a card. I get grief for not showing up to their St. Patrick’s Day party. I get an earful about the great-grandchildren and how great they are. Wonderful. What’s my update?

I moved, sold a house, kids are doing well, and We’re going on vacation in April. Everything is fantastic. What else is there? 🤷‍♀️ I think they maybe once asked Jim a question… something about his job or asking if he knows “so and so”.. something like that.

Anyway, enough about that. All I know is that it ate 3 and a half hours out of our day and by the time we got home the sun was already hanging low in the sky. Too late to do anything else really and also too late for me to try and use any time left to work. So much for saying “eff it” and getting out of town. I guess we’ll be doing that soon enough so I should not be too bent about it.

Now it’s Monday and time to own up to my missed deadline. Time to start the clock on my workweek and get those hours in. I’ll be adding that up and at the same time also counting down. Believe me, the other countdown in my brain is pretty damn loud.. 6 weeks to go.

Six weeks, six Mondays, and 120-150 hours to go. Today is the first day in April and the weather is going to start getting nice. I’ve got a lot to get done this month besides work (preparations for jumping back into my MFA, getting the garden ready, helping my kids finish the school year strong) and and I know it’s gonna be tough to fit it all in. I just need to take it one day at a time and do my best on all fronts.

Happy Fools Day.. Don’t waste it!
